With the first production of the bottom suspension block holding pin was designed to be loose so that it could easily be removed and replaced but when the clocks were shipped sometimes the holding collar would jog loose and the pin would fall out, releasing the pendulum to do considerable damage. To prevent this from happening the factory replaced the brass pin with a steel pin having an upset center. The pin was forced into the block under pressure making it very difficult to remove.
A simple way to remove the pin is to tap it our with a hammer and nail set punch.
Before replacing the pin, file off the upset portion so that it can be removed again and replaced.
