Gravers, Vallorbe Flat Edge
Flat Edge - Gravers - Vallorbe Swiss (0401) or Unbranded The Flat Edge Graver is used to cut out parallel curves and lines when engraving, chasing, decorating or sculpting. A professional stone setter will always ‘bright cut’* prior to setting an open back type setting; such as between peg clusters or along the channel before setting the stone(s) into the mount. The now reflective base will act as a mirror to enhance the stones sparkle. Additionally, jewellers often rhodium plate over the ring mount after the ‘bright cut’ process especially when setting diamonds. *Bright cut – the action of cutting the surface of the area where the stone is to be set, in order to enhance the stone.
- Wider, flat gravers such as No.24 create a unique finish by ‘rocking’ the graver from left to right while pulling the graver back creates an old fashioned and impressive textured effect on the surface.
- Furthermore, illusion settings enhance the appearance of small stones, making them seem bigger. By cutting facets on the illusion plate (around the stone) with a flat scorper or a square graver, the metal will catch and reflect light, adding to the sparkle of the stone.
