Electro Polishing Salts

ELECTRO POLISHING PROCESS

Electro polishing is used to produce brilliant finishing on 9 to 22ct carat gold, in deep recesses and with poor surface conditions (will not remove scratches).

Ideal to achieve high quality finishing (with exceptional reflectivity) in difficult areas to hand polish.

Function – used in conjunction with Electro Brightening Salts (C19822) to achieve chemical polishing on gold as a replacement to hand polishing, particularly in areas where physical polishing is impossible, i.e. Filigree work, inside stone setting and hallmarks.
• Container – Polypropylene or glass
• Anodes - stainless steel connect to negative out-put of D.C supply
• Temperature – 60-65°C
• D C voltage – 18-22 volts
• D.C Amps 4-22 volts per cm² (25-50 amps per inch²)
• Time 5-20 seconds
• Heater stainless steel or indirect (water jacket)
Note: Heating must be thermostatic; solution deteriorates quickly over 65°C
• Agitation- gentle horizontal movements
• Makes up five litre packs as salt.

Add white powder pack to the required amount of distilled water, stir well to dissolve. Add black powder pack, stir well and heat to the recommended temperature.

Operation: Suspend articles on copper, brass or stainless steel jigs or racks. To prepare: Work should be electro brightened in Cousins Electro Brightening Salts (C19822) prior to Electro-polishing.

Suspend articles on copper, brass or stainless steel jigs or racks. To Finish: Cousins Electro Polishing solution (C8898), change the connection from negative to positive out of the D.C supply. Correct voltage should rest between 18-24 volts and agitate gently.

Rinse in water.

Please note these directions are in accordance with our stripping unit (M8825), other systems may vary.
