General Adhesives

Milliput is a trade name for our epoxy putty. We supply two grades: Standard Yellow/Grey and Superfine White. Each grade is presented in similar packs containing two 56.7gram sticks and the general instructions for preparation and usage are the same.

The two sticks have a long shelf life but once mixed the resultant putty is at first soft and highly adhesive and then gradually hardens. Speed of hardening is dependant on temperature and at normal temperatures (20-25ºC) Milliput becomes rock hard in three to four hours. By the application of heat the setting time can be reduced to a few minutes.

After setting hard Milliput continues to cure and is fully cured after an elapse of time equal to the setting time at the same temperature. Once fully cured Milliput can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. Milliput can be sandpapered and painted immediately after it has been set. (It is advisable to wear eye protection during this process).

Milliput is an excellent adhesive and will bond any of the following to itself or to any of the others - wood, brick, cement, metals, concrete, plastics and glass, but note that Milliput is not intended as a thin layer adhesive and should not be used where a paste, mucilage or thin glue is indicated. Milliput will set under water and is heat resistant up to 130°C.

Other uses of Milliput are as follows: mould making for casting can add on to build up wax model , ceramic porcelain repair, antique clock and watch dial restoration, marble , slate, cast iron, repair and restoration.

Pearl Cement is a traditional adhesive of securing pearls on to jewellery. It is popular to use with the popular pearl, cup and peg style settings.

How to use…

1. Drill the pearl to the appropriate size and depth for the post to fit in. To hold the pearl we supply a pearl drilling stand (code V32167) and we supply drills in various sizes. We also supply a full range of rotary machines and jewellery drills perfect for this job, please see the links below.

2. Cut off a small piece of pearl cement into Cousins’ melting dish (code P19166).

3. Using our Heat Torch (code M4184) start to apply heat. As the cement liquefies use a solder pick and with the point pick up and wrap around the point. Start applying cement into the cup and post. Quickly place your pearl onto your mount and leave for five minutes.

4. To achieve maximum production, ensure that this process is done as quickly as possible, as pearl cement sets extremely fast.
