Handles for Files, Gravers & Broaches

Take a look at our large range of Handles.

Quick guide to mounting / fitting your various handles:
Graver handles vary in size and shape. Selection depends upon one's own hand grip control and comfort. For these reasons it is common to collect an assortment of handles.
New gravers are normally too long and must be cut back to reduce the excessive length. If the handle is more than a couple of inches long, a new graver would have to be cut back that much more to accommodate one's hand control.
However, as gravers are continually re-sharpened they become shorter. Hence, the change to a longer graver handle should be optioned rather than discarding the graver. Our ranges of quality graver handles are designed for durability. The fine finished hardwood is contoured to provide comfort and a sure grip. A metal band near the opening end secures the graver and acts to keep the wood from splitting when the graver is inserted.

Files come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and selection depends on hand grip, control and comfort. We supply a large range of file handles including with collet grip for needle files (H0858) and twist on handles (H7987) along with hardened traditional wooden handles.

Mounting your files and gravers on to the handles is simple with none collet or twist handles. Please see the guide below to mount the graver correctly.

Handling gravers after preparation is simple. After shaping the graver to the right size put the graver into a vice (V5345) and use vice grips (FDASJ35) so the leather grips do not mark the graver; then heat the blue end with a torch (M4184) for between one and two minutes.
Push on the handle making sure the top and bottom end of the graver touches the metal support ring collet. Leave to cool for thirty minutes, the graver is ready to use.

Files are just as easy to mount. Insert the file into a vice (V5345) and use vice grips (FDASJ35) so the leather grips do not mark the file; then heat the 'tang' or the 'grip' end with a torch (M4184) for between one and two minutes.
Push on the handle making sure the top and bottom end of the file touches the metal support ring collet. Leave to cool for thirty minutes, the file is ready to use.
