Potassium Hydroxide Flakes are a recharging agent for the Micro Welding Machines. Mix 340g with one litre of De-Mineralised Water (code C4359) and 640g with 2 litres of C4359.

Guideline and useful tips for mixing Potassium Hydroxide Flakes in a micro weld.

Items needed:
• 1 x 1 litre beaker (code P6479) or 1 x 2 litre beaker (code P6479)
• 1 x funnel (code F32076)
• 1 x chemical resistant gloves (code G9905)
• 1 x safety glasses (code G31553)
• 1 x wooden stick (not available to purchase)
Put on the gloves and safety glasses.

Reserve an area in the work shop is well ventilated; even it is merely opening a window, as Potassium Hydroxide emits harmful odours.

Fill the sink with cold water and pour one litre of de mineralised water into the beaker and place in the sink creating a water jacket. The cold water around the beaker will cool the potassium hydroxide solution as you are mixing while stirring with a wooden stick. Ensure its contents are emptied.

Allow the solution to cool for around half an hour then pour into the machine’s cell using the funnel. Often, the solution can be difficult to be seen when in the machine’s sight tube, if this happens continue as instructed here to fill the litre of solution is in the machine.* To pressurise the machine turn it on and if necessary add a small amount to the cell to see the level on the cell’s sight tube. A micro weld cell is hand made from steel so it is capable to hold slightly more solution so this is why a small, additional top up is required.

Maintain the effective running of the machine by gradually refilling the machine with de-mineralised water to the appropriate levels. This process is necessary however simply adding water will weaken the solution, ideally on occasion top the solution with 50g of Potassium Hydroxide to replenish its strength.

*Please note: If the machine is topped up too emphatically, overfilling will occur resulting in the solution emanating the Potassium Hydroxide and Water mix.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FLUID LEVELS
Over filling will cause the Micro welder to fail and that is not covered under the guarantee.
If returned with this problem you will incur a charge plus carriage costs.

ATOMISER
When setting up and filling the machine with the appropriate chemicals e.g. Methyl Ethyl
Keytone (M.E.K) only use 200ml to start with and switch the machine on for two minutes.
This is to let the fluid levels adjust and clear any air pockets and then top
up to the maximum mark.

Performance Tip
• Your Hydrogem is a great carrier of electricity giving you that wonderful flame. After
continually topping up your machine with distilled water you will notice over a period
of time that the flame becomes weaker.
This is because you have diluted the Potassium Hydroxide to such an extent that it
is no longer able to act as a carrier of electricity from the anode to the cathode.
REMEDY: Empty machine and clean out and then refill with another fresh solution
of Potassium Hydroxide and distilled water.
